DHAARA – THE DIVINE RAINFALL

A debut thematic stage production

RAIN is a phenomenon perceived differently by every individual. DHAARA combines two contrasting Indian dance forms Kathak and Bharatanatyam along with poetic monologues thus reflecting its several aspects. The main objective behind putting together such a production is to involve the young and upcoming artists of Singapore and provide them with the opportunity to work alongside professionals in this field of art. DHAARA which also translates to “flow” indicates the creative downpour of ideas from our Artistic Directors – Swarna & Akshaya, Musicians and other core members who have worked on this. This journey started almost six months prior to the event when we decided to stage a thematic presentation and we should admit that it was indeed very challenging. NATYA SAMBHASHANA

Natya Sambhashana was an online discussion forum, curated during the Pandemic lockdown to keep the students engaged in learning various aspects and topics surrounding Natya. This started as an internal event, and Students of SKM picked certain topics and presented their research to the forum. In the second phase, we had various eminent artists and dance educators from around the world presenting seminars and performances by upcoming artists and gurus. The topics chosen were pertaining to technical aspects, inspirational/motivational/experiential stories, and innovations. NRITYA KALA SANGAMAM

Nritya Kala Sangamam was an online dance festival hosted by SKM. This platform was curated to bring Indian Classical Performing artistes together from Singapore and also across the globe. Due to the ongoing Pandemic, this was conducted online, as a YouTube premiere. The event combined video performances by our very own students as well as senior artists from Singapore and abroad. On the finale, we were humbled to have onboard Smt. Vidha Lal, an internationally accomplished senior artist in Kathak. The faculty at SKM had also performed for the finale. After successful first edition, we also rolled out the festival for the second time in 2021.

OTHER ONLINE & OFFLINE FESTIVALS

We regularly to organize festivals/take part in other festivals in Singapore focussing on training the students for the stage. Many students have also been actively participating in competitions and winning prizes in the same. The artistes of Swarna Kala Mandir have also been performing at various venues in Singapore, Malaysia and India. We had our first Annual Day Celebrations “Arohana” in 2019 and With the Pandemic bringing difficulties for live performances, we have successfuly completed many Youtube-premiere based festivals like Diti (Deepavali), Maha Shivaratri Festival, Tamil New Year Festival etc presenting both inhouse talents, faculty as well as growing artists from Singapore and India.
